NWTF Wildlife Habitat area
River Valley Longbeards and Ohio State chapter team up again with local Utility Company Duke Energy in the NWTF Energy for Wildlife program. NWTF, Duke Energy and local Counties collaborated to provide wildlife habitat areas throughout Cincinnati Ohio. In order to provide safe and reliable electric to customers Duke Energy must maintain vegetation management around electrical facilities. The heart of an electrical system is the Transmission power lines that stretch coast to coast. Transmission lines are required to be clear of all trees within the easement of the lines. Duke Energy came to the NWTF for help with providing low growing vegetation which could help in keeping the trees and trouble vegetation under control as well as aid in the view of the affected areas. The Ohio State NWTF approved funding to provide the use of state NWTF biologist to come up with a seed mixture which would achieve this goal. With the advice of the state NWTF biologist the Ohio State chapter then purchased and provided the seed to Duke Energy to plant in the affected areas. The River Valley longbeards designed, and got required permits and approvals for providing and installing signs to help promote these areas.
The NWTF local and state chapters are very pleased to be a part of such a great program to provide these wildlife areas. These areas will help promote wildlife & vegetation for all to view and enjoy for many years to come. Special Thanks to Duke Energy and its concern and willingness to provide these Wild life areas.
